AAT Qualified Accountant & Tax Adviser

How did I end up in accountancy? It started quite simply — with my husband's tax return.

What began as helping out quickly grew into something more. One course led to another, and before long I was working towards a professional qualification.

At the very beginning, I took on volunteer work to gain experience. It felt like the most natural way forward — when you don't yet have experience, you create it. That was nearly ten years ago.

Since then, I've worked with established firms and am now building my own practice. Over time, I've gathered a wonderful mix of clients — individuals and small business owners — many of whom simply want to feel confident that everything is done properly and nothing is being missed.

Accountancy doesn't stand still. Rules change, requirements evolve, and there is always something new to learn. I see that as part of my responsibility — to stay on top of it all, so my clients don't have to.

If you're looking for clear explanations, careful handling, and a calm, reliable approach — and prefer speaking to a real person who understands your situation — you may feel very comfortable working with me.

I believe accountancy should be transparent, fairly priced, and centred around genuine client relationships, not just automated systems.

Outside of work, I have a soft spot for classical music (especially live performances) and long walks in the countryside — often in the South Downs, which have become a particular favourite — usually going a little further than planned. At home, our cat is very much in charge… and he is fully aware of it.

AAT Bookkeeper & Digital Accounting Specialist

I'm Lara, a bookkeeper and digital accounting specialist working as part of the Solent Consultancy team.

With over 30 years of experience, I support small businesses with bookkeeping, VAT, CIS, payroll, and general financial administration. I'm often the first point of contact for clients, helping with day-to-day questions and making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.

I enjoy working closely with clients and keeping things clear, organised, and easy to manage — whether that's keeping records up to date, answering a quick question, or helping systems run more efficiently. My aim is always to take the pressure off, so clients can focus on running their business without worrying about the details.

I mainly work remotely from my garden office alongside my dog, Otis, using cloud-based systems such as Xero, Dext, and Hubdoc to keep everything running efficiently and in good order.

I'm naturally friendly, chatty, and easy to work with, and I really value building long-term relationships with the clients I support — being someone they can rely on and feel comfortable reaching out to.

Outside of work, I love music, dancing, and getting out in the campervan whenever I can — the further away from emails and spreadsheets, the better, especially if there's a bit of music, colour, and a relaxed atmosphere along the way.

Business Strategy & Marketing Consultancy

I have been working in marketing and business strategy for over twenty years — and throughout that time, it has always been a way of thinking about business differently, not just a profession.

I built my career running advertising agencies, working my way up to Managing Director and delivering more than 700 projects for global brands including Coca-Cola, Adidas, Bayer, and Kimberly-Clark. That experience gave me not only deep marketing expertise, but a genuine understanding of how large corporations think and operate — from the inside.

And yet, given the choice, I have always preferred to work on my own terms. My husband and I built our family business, MMGP, from scratch two years ago. What started as our own small venture now ships to seven countries, including the United States.

I work with small and family business owners who feel stuck and are not sure where to begin. I speak their language — because I have been there myself.

My approach is straightforward: less noise, more clarity. Once a client understands where they are and where they could go, everything else becomes considerably easier.

Outside of work, I live by the sea. Every morning I walk along the seafront — different light, different sky, different mood every single day. That feeling of being between the sea and the sky is very difficult to explain, but very easy to love.
